BIG SUR, CA
Places to Stay

There are a lot of campgrounds within Big Sur, all along the same road. Thankfully we got one of the last spots out of all the campgrounds. We stayed at Big Sur Campground & Cabins

This campground was the most expensive we stayed at during our trip, for $75 per night. But we had no choice, and to be honest it ended up being our favorite one. We stayed for 2 nights and it was huge. Lots of tents, RVs, vans, and also cabins within the grounds. They also had public bathrooms, showers, and a laundry room on site. We took full advantage of the laundry room, and shower!, since we were on a 16 day road trip, it felt amazing to freshen up.

They offered bundles of fire wood too for $10. We got a bundle and decided to make our chicken fajitas on the open fire one of the nights we were there.
There was also a great deal of hotels/motels along the same road, as well as tons of shops and some bars/restaurants as well. Big Sur has it's own little community and seemed like a good place to come with a family.

Things to Do

• Hike
We did the Buzzards Roost Trail which was about 3-4 miles round trip and was a moderate hike out of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park area. Pictures above.
Really enjoyed this hike. Climbed through forested areas and ended our hike up top overlooking amazing panoramic views of the mountains and Pacific ocean. There were a TON of hikes in Big Sur, so definitely grab some maps and figure out what's best for you and the time that you're there. We would have loved to do a longer, more strenuous hike but unfortunately ended up not having the time.

• See the iconic bridge
When I thought about Big Sur I always pictured this iconic bridge that you always see in pictures. When driving into Big Sur, it's really just one main road (Highway 1) and you will have no choice but to go over this bridge. There was an area where you could pull over and take pictures but it was just way too crowded when we were there. To be honest, the bridge wasn't all it was cracked up to be anyways. It was nice to just drive over it and see it. But you can obviously pull over if you wish. We were in the area on a pretty foggy day too so the scenic imagery wasn't that great for us.
